Shikshapatri -Code Of Conduct

This unique script is the most sacred book of our religion. Shikshaptri is one of its only kind which is written by Lord Swaminarayan, the Supreme Godhead himself. This small booklet specifies the code of conduct which is strictly observed by all disciples - be it Acharyas, Bhramchari, Sadhus and Grishastas (householders). In simple words its main message is categorized in following groups:

DHARMA - Way of life and religion is essential in everyone’s lives.

BHAKTI - Have faith in Lord Krishna and worship him (Shlok 103).

VAIRAGYA - Detachment from world except Shree Krishna.

GNYAN - One would have Knowledge and realize His difference between Jiv (ginite Selves) Maya (evil desires) Ishwar (subordinate Gods Supreme Gods himself) - (Shlok 104)

Jiva -This is His love without which one cannot function at all. Although it’s the controller of the whole body, its power of knowing and willing entirely depends on and is governed by God. The soul cannot be destroyed by air, wind or fire his it is AMAR (eternal) (Shlok 105)

Maya - This is constituted into 3. Gnyan which cause confusion and delusion in the self. The Whole universe comes to existence due to this. (Shlok 105)

Ishwar - This is a conscious spiritual being free from maha maya. This supreme is the creator of our soul. One has to realize that this Supreme Being is the creator of all living and non living things and is the above all of us. (Shlok 107)

Murti - This is the goal to be achieved under the guidance of God realized Guru(Saint). This is the place where the soul desire to serve the Load in his Abode - Akshardham - (Shlok 129) Therefore everyone of us should understand the Law of Karma and do every Karma in an entirely pure way. I.e. pure religion (Dharma), pure devotion (Bhakti), Pure Vairagya and pure Knowledge (Gnyan). By delving these qualities one can have no doubt to attain moksha.

Lord Swaminarayan himself has stressed the importance of this book. It was written in Sanskrit and contains 212 verses. This book is considered Lord Swaminarayan’s own form so one must respect it and if one fails to do so, he has to observe fast on that day.
